Caste has always played a big role in the politics of Bihar, now it seems like caste census has also become a big political issue. A few days ago, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while demanding a caste census, appealed to the central government that the census in 2021 should be on the basis of caste. And now the Leader of Opposition in Bihar Tejashwi Yadav has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding caste census.
Today on August 13, in a letter to the Prime Minister, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has said that written notice has been given by the Central Government in Parliament that the Census 2021 will not be on the basis of caste. This is quite unfortunate. Backward and most backward classes are not able to develop for ages. In such a situation, if the caste census is not conducted even now, then the social, educational, political, and economic status of the backward and most backward castes will not be properly assessed nor will they get the right allocation in the budget.
The letter further states that the last caste census was conducted 90 years ago in 1931. Therefore, the need of the hour is that caste census should be conducted without any delay. There is also a demand of the majority of the population that the caste census should be conducted without delay.
It is further informed in the letter that a resolution has been passed in the Bihar Legislative Assembly with the cooperation of all parties including BJP demanding to conduct caste census twice. In the letter, the assurance given by the Union Home Minister regarding the caste census in the year 2019 has been reminded. At the end of the letter to the Prime Minister, Tejashwi Yadav again requested the caste census.
