Guwahati, Sep 9 (News Galiyara) The Indian Army is also going to take part in the rescue operation from today, Thursday, September 9, to search for people missing in the Brahmaputra river in a boat accident in Jorhat district of Assam. It is hoped that with the involvement of the Indian Army, this rescue operation can be accelerated and the lives of the missing people can be saved.
It is to be known that on the evening of Wednesday 8th September, about 100 meters from Nematighat Ghat in Jorhat district of Assam, a large government ship, belonging to the inland water transport of the state of Assam, had a face-off with a small private boat. There was a collision. The government boat sank in the Brahmaputra in this accident that happened around 4 pm on Wednesday, 8 September.

It is to be known that due to monsoon, the water level of Brahmaputra river is very high and fast. Due to this, all 120 aboard the big boat drowned in the water. Shortly after this accident, the Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDRF) in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) started the rescue operation of the people.
NDRF Deputy Commandant P. Srivastava says that as per state records, 50 people have been rescued and 70 are still missing. One woman has been confirmed dead by the authorities. Along with this the people responsible for this boat accident have been suspended by the Assam state government.
The Center has assured all possible help to the Assam government in rescuing people after a boat accident in Jorhat. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over phone and said that the central government is continuously monitoring the situation. Apart from this, the President of the country Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have also expressed their regret for this accident and prayed for the safe return of the missing people.
