Greater Noida West, 05 February 2025 – The residents of Centurion Park O2 Valley, located in Tech Zone-4, have taken to the streets in protest against the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC). Several key issues have fueled their frustration, leading to a large-scale demonstration demanding immediate action from the authorities.
Key Issues Raised by the Residents
1. Lack of Adequate Parking Spaces
One of the primary grievances raised by the residents revolves around the inadequate parking facilities. Despite the society having 800 flats, only 350 parking spaces have been allotted. The residents have expressed their frustration, stating that despite repeated assurances from NBCC over the past year, no concrete measures have been taken to provide additional parking.
2. Concerns Over New Construction Projects
A major point of contention is the approval of a new construction project within the society’s premises. The land at the front of O2 Valley has been allotted to a new contractor, Girdhari Lal Construction, for the development of nine new towers. The proposed project includes:
- Eight towers of 30 floors each
- One tower of 43 floors
Residents fear that such massive construction will significantly impact their quality of life. The new buildings are expected to block sunlight, leading to poor ventilation and lack of natural light in the existing apartments.
3. Environmental Hazards and Pollution
The residents have raised serious concerns regarding increased dust pollution caused by the ongoing construction work. The contractors have allegedly failed to implement proper dust control measures, causing environmental degradation in and around O2 Valley. Additionally, there are worries about the excessive usage of groundwater for construction purposes, which could severely impact the region’s water table.
4. Safety Concerns Due to Boundary Wall Demolition
Another alarming issue is the attempted demolition of the society’s boundary walls. According to the residents, NBCC has instructed the contractor to break down sections of the boundary wall, posing a major security risk to families residing in O2 Valley. With the boundary walls removed, the community would be vulnerable to unauthorized access, increasing the risk of thefts, trespassing, and other safety concerns.
5. Traffic Congestion and Roadway Issues
Residents have also highlighted major traffic-related issues caused by NBCC’s planning decisions. The corporation’s proposed plan to use the backside areas of Towers F-15 and F-16 for building roads leading to nearby schools is expected to create heavy congestion, leading to inconvenience and increased safety hazards for the O2 Valley residents.
Voices of the Residents: A Growing Movement
Prominent residents including Prakash Singh, Deepak Singh, Tushar, Rajesh, and Yogendra have stepped forward to lead the protests. They have vowed to continue their fight for their rights, stating that if NBCC does not take immediate corrective action, they will intensify the protests over the weekend, with larger gatherings planned for Saturday and Sunday.
Demands and Expectations from NBCC
The protesting residents have put forth a clear set of demands:
- Immediate allocation of additional parking spaces to meet the society’s requirements.
- Transparency in construction projects, ensuring that sunlight and ventilation of existing flats are not obstructed.
- Strict environmental protection measures, including dust control and regulated groundwater usage.
- Security reinforcement by halting the demolition of the society’s boundary walls.
- Re-evaluation of road construction plans to prevent traffic congestion and maintain safe passage for residents.
Authorities and Future Course of Action
Residents have also threatened to take legal action against NBCC if their demands are ignored. With the situation escalating, it remains to be seen how NBCC will respond to the growing unrest among the residents of Centurion Park O2 Valley.
As the protests gain momentum, the residents remain steadfast in their fight for justice, determined to secure a better and safer living environment for their community.
