Afghanistan’s central bank urges people to use local currency

On the increasing use of foreign currencies in the country, the central bank of Afghanistan has urged the citizens of the country to use the domestic currency.

Taliban have started to rule in Afghanistan, but the road ahead for the Talibani government, which came to power after 20 years, does not seem to be easy. Meanwhile, on the increasing use of foreign currencies in the country, the central bank of Afghanistan has urged the citizens of the country to use the domestic currency.

Afghanistan’s central bank, Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), has urged people to use local currency in transactions and avoid the use of foreign currencies. “In accordance with Article 33 of The Afghanistan Bank Law, the currency of Afghanistan and its monetary unit is the Afghani,” the bank said in a statement posted on its social media account on Friday.

“Therefore, all Afghans, government and private institutions are requested to use Afghan currency in their contracts, transactions and businesses to improve economic development,” the bank said.
The announcement comes amid increasing use of foreign currencies in some Afghan provinces, including the US dollar, the Iranian rial and the Pakistani rupee.
