New Delhi [India], February 5 – The Delhi Assembly elections have once again sparked political controversy as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged protests in Seelampur Assembly constituency on Wednesday. Alleging large-scale bogus voting, BJP workers claimed that illegal voters were being brought in from outside to manipulate election results.
BJP Alleges Bogus Voting in Seelampur Constituency
BJP candidate from Seelampur, Anil Gaur, strongly criticized the election process, stating that fake voters had infiltrated the polling booths. “These 300-400 fake voters have been brought from Loni in Uttar Pradesh. I believe they could be Bangladeshis. We have identified and caught at least 25 of them. This fake voting must stop,” Gaur said.
He further alleged that the bogus voting was being orchestrated by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and that multiple attempts to intervene had led to a temporary halt in several polling booths. “Kejriwal’s party is engaging in unfair practices to influence election results,” he added.
AAP Responds to BJP’s Allegations
In response to the allegations, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha raised concerns over security personnel allegedly preventing their relievers from entering polling booths. “Both relievers and polling agents are assigned to monitor the voting process. However, we have received numerous complaints that our relievers were not allowed inside in several polling stations in the New Delhi Assembly constituency,” Chadha said.
He added that without the relievers, there was no way to verify if fake voting had occurred or if there were issues with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). “We have officially reached out to the District Election Officer, urging them to ensure that fair voting procedures are followed,” he stated.
Voter Turnout and Election Commission’s Response
Despite the ongoing controversy, voter turnout in the Delhi Assembly elections was reported at 57.70% till 5 PM, as per the Election Commission of India. The polling process across all 11 districts of Delhi officially concluded at 6 PM.
The Election Commission has yet to make an official statement regarding the allegations of bogus voting and the security concerns raised by AAP. However, political experts believe that such disputes highlight the ongoing tensions between the ruling AAP and the BJP, as both parties attempt to secure power in the capital.
Political Implications and Future Course of Action
The allegations of rigged voting in Delhi elections could impact voter sentiment in the upcoming phases of elections. BJP leaders have urged authorities to take strict action against those involved in fraudulent practices, while AAP continues to demand fair treatment of its polling agents.
With the Delhi Assembly elections being crucial for both parties, the political battlefield is only intensifying. The results of these elections will determine whether AAP retains power in Delhi or if BJP can make significant inroads in the capital.
As the dust settles, all eyes are now on the Election Commission’s next move and how it addresses the concerns raised by both parties.
